In an innovative and bold collaborative project with El Teatro Campesino, youth from throughout Monterey County perform in Luis Valdez‚ explosive play "Zoot Suit". In a combination of docudrama, myth, and musical, Valdez depicts the trial of the Sleepy Lagoon Murder and the related Zoot Suit Riots of 1943. The play brings to life the racially-charged trial, in which a group of pachucos, Mexican-American gang members, are charged and sentenced with the murder of another Mexican-American.
The incomparable Reg Huston returns to the Forest Theater Guild to direct and star in this moving tale of love and chivalry. Relive the glory of King Arthur's legendary "Round Table" and Camelot's brave quest for right, honor, and justice. Based on T.H. White's book The Once and Future King, this classic musical is revered as one of the greatest love stories ever produced.

Argentina's controversial First Lady is the subject of this dynamic musical masterpiece. As an illegitimate fifteen year old, Eva escaped her dirt-poor existence for the bright lights of Buenos Aires. Driven by ambition and blessed with charisma, she was a starlet at twenty-two, the president's mistress at twenty-four, First Lady at twenty-seven, and dead at thirty-three. Eva Peron "saint to the working-class, reviled by the aristocracy and mistrusted by the military" was destined to leave a fascinating political legacy unique in the 20th century. Told through a compelling score that fuses haunting chorales with exuberant Latin, pop and jazz influences, EVITA creates an arresting theatrical portrait as complex as the woman herself.
Our All-Star Program will once again present an original play by Luis Valdez, internationally renown playwright. "Bandido! An American Melodrama", depicts the history of the Old West and the bandits who became legendary, specifically, Monterey native son, Tiburcio Vasquez. In his trademark style of irony, drama, and humor, Valdez presents the contrast between the photographic portraits that documented Vasquez' life and death with the melodramatic stereotype that survives in U.S. history books.
With the guidance of Mr. Valdez, the Guild will work with a cast of all-stars drawn from South County, North County, and the Peninsula to present literature that has historical and cultural relevance for our region.
