"TOY STORY 2, CANNERY ROW, AND THE PRINCESS BRIDE" Presented by the Forest Theater Guild

(WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 28: Carmel, CA): The Forest Theater Guild is proud to present a special film series at the Golden State Theatre on Saturday, February 7, 2009. All proceeds of the day's activities benefit the Guild's youth outreach programs.

Beginning at 3:00 p.m. the Guild presents Disney/Pixar's Toy Story 2. Everyone's favorite toys are back for fun-filled family adventure. Join Woody, Buzz Lighyear and the rest of the gang in this exciting sequel to the 1995 original. Perfect for families of all ages! Rated G, this timeless classic can be enjoyed on the big screen for only $5.00 per person.

The Guild highlights the Central Coast region in an evening of literature, art, music, and film. The live performance beginning at 6:00 p.m. will feature a presentation of regional literature with readings from Robinson Jeffers (sponsored by Tor House), John Steinbeck, and the original poetry of middle school students from Stevenson School. Jazz vocalist, Susana McGuire will sing and the dancers from SpectorDance will perform their work based on the Jeffers poem, "Ocean, Bird, Sky". The film "Cannery Row" based on John Steinbeck's book of the same title and starring Nick Nolte and Debra Winger will start at 7:00p.m. Additionally, the Pilgrim's Way bookstore from Carmel will have literature on display in the theatre's Mezzanine. The fundraiser is made possible by the City of Monterey and the Golden State Theatre. Tickets for the live performance and film are $5.00 per person.

Rounding out the day, the Guild will present "The Princess Bride" starring Andre the Giant, Robin Wright, Peter Falk, and Mandy Patinkin. Full of swashbuckling adventure, colorful characters, and memorable lines; i.e., "As you wish", the film has become one of the most popular fantasy films ever produced. The film is rated PG. Film time is 9: 15p.m. Tickets are $5.00 per person.

The Guild's All-Star Outreach program is a proven model for pro-active outreach in the live performing arts to youth throughout Monterey County. Productions are presented entirely by students with the support of certified teachers. The program is unique in its commitment to delivering culturally relevant material in a manner consistent with the state standards for education in the Visual and Performing Arts. "We are providing an attractive alternative for our youth, while building new, diverse audiences for our future."
