The Forest Theater Guild recently received a grant in the amount of $10,000 from the Monterey Peninsula Foundation to support general operating expenses. "The Monterey Peninsula Foundation has been a generous supporter of the Guild for many years. We are very grateful for their support and honored by their confidence in our programs," stated Jane De Lay, Executive Director for the Guild. "These are challenging times for non-profits and the grant will allow us to continue delivering quality community-theater to the region." The Guild produces an annual season of musicals at the historic Outdoor Theater in Carmel, as well as the Films in the Forest Festival, and the F.T. Renner Student Short Film Festival. In addition, the organization is committed to supporting youth in the arts through proactive outreach to students throughout Monterey County with the All-Star Youth Program, the Apprentice and Mentor Program in Stagecraft, and to supporting the academic ambitions of youth with the Annual Michel Willey Youth Scholarship Awards.
The Forest Theater Guild is also participating in the Monterey Peninsula Foundation’s "Birdies for Charities" Program. Pledges to the Guild through the "Birdies" program will be matched 10% by the Foundation. "It’s a clever way for the broader community to benefit from the annual golf tournament," said De Lay. "The program is fun, provides terrific exposure, and it makes giving easy."
The Forest Theater Guild works to protect the heritage and integrity of Carmel's historic outdoor theater through stewardship, preservation of its unique character, and enhancement of facilities. Moreover, the Guild presents quality performing arts and fosters the growth and appreciation of the dramatic and allied arts among the broad community utilizing Community talent with emphasis on youth.
